S*COIN

This project was born from an assignment in my Graphic Design Intensive class—the prompt was to create a start-up company that would “disrupt” start-up culture or companies in one way or the other.

I chose to investigate cryptocurrencies, and after hours of research into various coins, the concept of the blockchain, and cryptoculture I started work on a speculative cryptocurrency of my own: Shitcoin, a reappropriation
of a pejorative term describing cryptocurrencies with little worth.

I had laid out a system based on the average amount of stool we produce per day, the metabolic energy it
took to produce this waste, and created an economy and blockchain based off of these values, culminating in the planning and designing of a facility which could house thousands of restrooms to “mine” the currency.
